Afriart Gallery presents Ugandan artist Odur Ronald (b. 1992) with new works from his ongoing body of work 'The Republic of This and That'. The work explores and comments on the idea of free movement, belonging, and personhood using recreated aluminum printing plates finely stitched together with copper wire. The passport, a symbol of identity and a gateway to international experiences, serves as a central theme. The symbolism of the passport becomes a powerful metaphor to explore our current historical moment.
Odur Ronald (b. 1992 in Uganda) seeks to tackle his ideas from different vantage points that may reveal themselves as sculptures, installations, paintings and performance. His work addresses contemporary issues of power, movement, access, belonging and personhood. Recent exhibitions include the 60th Venice Biennale and Dak’art Biennale 2024.
