Marietta Mavrokordatou’s framed photographs loosely resemble the shape of eyes. Reflecting the way her eyes can only bring distant objects into focus at a very close vantage point, the macro lens she applies allows each to be captured with the same narrow, intensified view that she experiences. Marietta likens the camera to a mirror for vision, and is continually exploring the potential output of the photographic medium by virtue of autobiography.
Marietta Mavrokordatou (b. 1996, Cyprus) is a London-based artist with a BA from Camberwell College of Arts (2019) and an MFA from Slade School of Fine Art (2023). Recent exhibitions have been held at Brunette Coleman, Radio Athènes, Akwa Ibom, Thkio Ppalies, and Felix Gaudlitz. She explores the potential forms of the photographic medium. Through the reconfiguration of autobiographical elements as reference points, she introduces an alternative way of perceiving, grounded in her personal perspective.
