In times of despair, happiness and health become radical acts of resistance. Georg Gatsas and Mimi Hope explore survival strategies shaped by urban life—Gatsas through collective identity, Hope through aspirational self-mythology.
Gatsas documents the interplay between community and environment, revealing the tensions between escapism and belonging. Through his photography and installations, he captures the dynamics of urban subcultures and highlights how collective experiences and social networks provide support in challenging times.
Meanwhile, Mimi Hope’s Meditations series transforms imagery from meditation and manifestation into devotional objects, layered with the grit of St. Pauli’s nightlife.
Georg Gatsas (b. 1978) is an artist with an MFA from the Institute Art Gender Nature in Basel (2020). He lives and works in Switzerland and abroad. Recent exhibitions and screenings include JUBG Cologne, Biennale Bregaglia, Kunstmuseum St.Gallen, and Silent Green Berlin. Gatsas uses both still and moving images to map the intersections between creativity, location, memory, and focus.
