In her Comparisons and Soft Sculptures, Freeman prioritizes trompe l'oeil, carefully replicating objects in vinyl, and situating her images on corkboard. These works disarm the viewer with their humor and approachable method of installation before presenting rigorous art historical principles ripe for formal analysis. Freeman’s work analyzes the conferral of value in contemporary art. Her dedication to presentation, artifice, and installation finds through lines within the context of an international art collecting community.
Al Freeman received her B.F.A. from Concordia University in 2005, and her M.F.A. from the Yale University School of Art in 2010.
