Pilot presents Istanbul-based works by Zeren Göktaş and Gözde Mimiko Türkkan, two artists addressing gender-based violence and structures of domination, advocating for cultural and systemic change beyond mere awareness-raising. Göktaş highlights the systemic nature of femicide, while Mimiko examines how power is internalized and performed. Together, their works offer complementary perspectives on gender, violence, intimacy and societal structures, challenging dominant cultural narratives.
Zeren Göktan (b. 1975) is an Istanbul-based artist with a BFA in Graphic Design and an MFA in Studio Art from Bilkent University in Ankara, followed by a second master’s degree at Tufts University, Boston, focusing on media including photography, video and sound. Göktan has exhibited in the Istanbul Biennial; Istanbul Design Biennial; PhotoBiennale’22, Thessaloniki Museum of Photography; Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Art Basel.
Gözde Mimiko Türkkan (b. 1984) is an Istanbul-based artist with a BA in Photography & Video from Istanbul Bilgi University and an MA Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London. Mimiko is a multidisciplinary artist mainly producing videos, performative and textual works. She has exhibited in 15th Havana Biennial; Loop Barcelona; Photo Basel’23; Analix Forever, Geneva; Istanbul Modern Museum and Art HK’11, Hong Kong.
