Jiyoon Chung and Sun Woo, two artists whose practices navigate the intersections of fragility, identity, and cultural constructs. Through their distinct approaches, both artists look into the narratives of individuals that are overlooked and often erased within the larger social fabric, producing frictions that challenge constructed boundaries. Using subtle disruptions and dramatic alterations of the mundane, their works immerse themselves in layered transformations, treading the precarious line between vulnerability and resistance.

Jiyoon Chung
Jiyoon Chung is an artist from the Korean-millennial generation who probes into ambivalent conditions that disturb the social fabric of everyday life. Utilizing a broad spectrum of artistic mediums—such as sculpture, installation, sound, text, and photography—Chung delves into the contradictory interplay between resistance and compliance within societal norms, particularly focusing on themes of selfhood and prejudice. Her work is characterized by an exaggerated minimalist style that not only explores tangible social interactions like drinking but also ventures into intangible aspects such as luck and impulse misdemeanors.

Sun Woo
As an immigrant and a digital native, Korean Canadian artist Sun Woo interweaves migrating experiences across cultural and technological boundaries to address the concept of belonging and estrangement within the real and virtual space. Through paintings and sculptures, Sun Woo explores the body as a site of continuous transitions and hybridity by converging her corporeal fragments with objects, landscapes, and technologies tied to her personal history. For the artist, both her identity and technology are elements that simultaneously create connection and distance, positioning her as both a subject and object, an engaged participant and a stranger in society.
